Alex Otti Moves to Boost Power Supply in Abia Through Alternative Energy

Alex Otti has declared that Abia State can no longer rely solely on the national grid for electricity supply, saying his administration is actively exploring alternative power sources to drive industrial growth across the state.
Otti made the statement on Wednesday while receiving the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, Jennifer Adighije, at the Government House in Abia State.
The governor stressed that stable electricity remains essential to the economic development of key commercial hubs such as Umuahia and Aba, noting that industries and businesses cannot thrive without dependable power supply.
He said his administration is prepared to collaborate with public and private sector organisations capable of improving electricity generation and distribution in the state.
According to Otti, the priority of the Abia State Government is to ensure residents and businesses enjoy uninterrupted power supply, regardless of whether the electricity comes from the national grid or alternative energy solutions.
Speaking during the visit, Adighije disclosed that the 450-megawatt section of the Alaoji Power Plant has been successfully restored after years of inactivity.
She explained that the restored facility is expected to contribute about 375 megawatts of electricity to the national grid, a development she said would significantly improve power availability in the region.
Adighije further assured the Abia State Government of the company’s commitment to supporting the state’s industrialisation agenda through improved electricity generation and distribution.
