A former councillor representing Awume-Icho Ward in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State, Daniel Ujah, has been remanded at the Otukpo Correctional Centre over allegations of assault and attempted culpable homicide.
Ujah, 43, was brought before the Upper Area Court 2 in Otukpo by the Nigeria Police and charged with criminal trespass, intimidation, criminal force and assault, causing grievous hurt, as well as attempted culpable homicide.
The case followed a petition submitted by Rebecca Adole to the Area Commander’s Office in Otukpo, according to a First Information Report marked CR33/2026 and issued on Thursday.
The police alleged that on August 28, 2026, Ujah unlawfully entered the residence of Adole’s mother, Amina Iduh, in Akwutulo, Awume, where he allegedly attacked her.

According to the FIR, Adole received a telephone call from her cousin, Isaac Iduh, informing her that her mother had returned from the farm and was allegedly assaulted by Ujah.
The police further alleged that during the incident, the suspect beat the woman before pushing her into a fire, leaving her with injuries to her buttocks. Her clothes were also reportedly burnt.
The injured woman was subsequently taken to a hospital in Onyagede, Ohimini LGA, where she is receiving treatment, the police said.
The FIR further accused Ujah of threatening to kill the woman and allegedly boasting that nobody would be able to stop him.
At the court proceedings on Wednesday, Ujah pleaded not guilty to all the allegations.
His lawyer, Rev. O. Simon, who appeared on behalf of P.O. Ella, applied for his release on bail. The application was, however, opposed by the prosecuting counsel, Inspector Nancy Alechenu.
Presiding Magistrate Hasia Garuba subsequently ordered that Ujah be remanded at the Otukpo Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
The court adjourned the case until September 22, 2026, for further mention.
