President Bola Tinubu has approved an 18-month extension of the tenures of the heads of the Nigerian Correctional Service and the Nigeria Immigration Service, keeping both officials in office until 2028.

The Presidency announced the decision on Monday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Under the arrangement, the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, will remain in office until May 26, 2028.

Similarly, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap, will continue in office until June 30, 2028.

Similarly, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap, will continue in office until June 30, 2028.

The Presidency said the extension followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and was intended to address a succession gap while allowing the relevant board to appoint successors.

Tinubu urged both officials to consolidate the reforms initiated under their leadership and strengthen the performance of their respective agencies.

Nandap’s previous tenure extension, announced in March 2025, had set December 31, 2026, as her expected departure date.

The latest decision moves that date to June 2028.

The two agencies play significant roles in Nigeria’s internal security and public administration, with the Correctional Service responsible for custodial facilities and the Immigration Service handling border management, migration and travel documentation.

The Presidency said the extension was expected to ensure continuity in the leadership of both institutions.
