Two Drug Traffickers Jailed in Lagos Over Tramadol, Cannabis

Two drug traffickers, Ogunwale Ranti and Ibrahim Adamu, have been convicted and sentenced by the Federal High Court, Lagos over offences involving tramadol and cannabis.
The judgment was delivered by Justice Friday Ogazi after both defendants pleaded guilty to one count each of trafficking in controlled substances brought by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Prosecuting counsel, Barrister Chibuzo E. Ohanyere, told the court that Ogunwale was arrested on December 10, 2025, with 27.8 kilograms of tramadol at an NDLEA checkpoint along the Badagry Expressway in Lagos.
He further informed the court that Adamu was arrested on January 30, 2026, at the Ashipa Seme border area of Badagry West Local Government Area with 1.5 kilograms of cannabis sativa.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 11(a) and 11(c) of the NDLEA Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
Both defendants were arraigned on separate charges marked FHC/L/71c/2026 and FHC/L/152c/2026, and they each pleaded guilty to the allegations.
Following their guilty pleas, the prosecution tendered exhibits and urged the court to convict and sentence the defendants accordingly.
Defence counsel, however, pleaded for leniency, describing the convicts as first-time offenders and urging the court to consider non-custodial sentences.
In his ruling, Justice Ogazi held that he considered the submissions of both parties and the defendants’ status as first-time offenders before passing sentence.
The court sentenced Ogunwale to 12 months imprisonment with an option of a N900,000 fine, while Adamu received six months imprisonment with an option of a N800,000 fine.
