The Ondo State Government has thrown its weight behind the nationwide #UniteAgainstTerror campaign, calling on Nigerians to set aside political, ethnic and religious differences and unite in the fight against terrorism and other violent crimes threatening the country’s peace and stability.
The mobilisation drive follows the recent conviction and sentencing of individuals linked to the June 2022 Owo church massacre, a tragic attack that claimed several lives and left many families and communities devastated.
While welcoming the court’s decision as a major step toward justice, the state government stressed that defeating terrorism requires continuous vigilance and the active participation of citizens across the country.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa said the campaign presents an opportunity for Nigerians to speak with one voice against terrorism and all forms of violent extremism.
According to the governor, national security should rise above partisan considerations, urging citizens to promptly report suspicious activities and security threats to relevant authorities. He emphasized that “when we see something, we must say something.”
The government also commended the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Amotekun Corps and other security agencies for their commitment and sacrifices in protecting lives and maintaining the nation’s territorial integrity.
It further called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, community associations, youth groups, civil society organisations and media practitioners to embrace the #UniteAgainstTerror campaign as a collective effort to strengthen intelligence gathering and improve public awareness on security issues.

Reaffirming its commitment to supporting lawful measures aimed at enhancing national security, the Ondo State Government urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and actively contribute to efforts to build a safer and more secure country for present and future generations.
