The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has expanded its counter-financial crime apparatus with the official launch of the “NPF Vigilant App,” a digital platform designed to enable citizens to directly report suspected fraud and submit evidence to investigators.
Unveiled by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, at the NPF Conference Centre in Jabi, Abuja, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, the application marks a strategic shift toward technology-driven, intelligence-led policing across the federation.
The newly deployed platform allows users to lodge complaints regarding financial crimes, upload supporting documentation, and track real-time progress updates as investigations proceed. Speaking at the launch, IGP Disu noted that the rapid evolution of online transactions and financial technologies requires law enforcement to modernize its operational methodologies.
“Information now moves much faster, and criminals are becoming more sophisticated, making technology an indispensable part of modern policing,” Disu stated, emphasizing that the tool will strengthen public trust and enhance intelligence gathering.
Developed by the Force ICT Department, the initiative involved collaboration with key stakeholders in the financial ecosystem, including the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), commercial banks, and fintech organizations.
Alongside the reporting application, the IGP also inaugurated the NPF-MTN Closed User Group (CUG) Network. The dedicated telecommunications infrastructure provides secure, low-cost inter-officer communication to accelerate operational response times, emergency coordination, and cross-command information sharing nationwide.
Addressing potential public concerns regarding digital oversight, the Police Chief reassured citizens that technological deployment within the Force will strictly comply with data protection, privacy laws, and constitutional rights.
