The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has commenced moves to remove illegal structures and tackle encroachment within the Olusosun Dumpsite, in a bid to protect the facility and ensure uninterrupted waste management operations across the state.
The exercise began on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, with the issuance of removal notices to owners and occupants of shanties and other illegal structures identified within the dumpsite.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said the action was necessary to safeguard the integrity and accessibility of the facility, which remains critical to Lagos State’s waste management operations.
Gbadegesin said those affected had been directed to remove their structures and vacate the area within a stipulated period, in accordance with relevant laws.
He explained that unchecked encroachment and other unauthorised activities within the dumpsite could hinder safe and efficient waste management operations and compromise the orderly use of the facility.
The LAWMA boss urged affected owners and occupants to comply with the removal notices, stressing that protecting waste management infrastructure was essential to maintaining a clean, safe and liveable Lagos.
He reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to sustainable waste management and ensuring that its facilities remained accessible, functional and properly organised.
The Olusosun facility is among the waste disposal sites managed as part of Lagos’ waste management system. LAWMA’s official website lists Olusosun among locations served under its waste-management operations.
Gbadegesin said the exercise was part of broader efforts to preserve the dumpsite as a functional waste management facility and prevent activities that could compromise its operations.
