A mechanic identified as Samson has been killed after he was allegedly lured to Abijo in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State under the guise of repairing a Mercedes-Benz car.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, September 15, after Samson, who operated a workshop around Warike Estate, received a call requesting his services and proceeded to the location.
A police source said the mechanic was allegedly taken into a bush after arriving at the location, where he was killed.
“The victim was lured to the location on the pretext of going to repair a Mercedes-Benz car. We were told that when he got there, he was taken into the bush and killed,” the source said.
The source added that suspected cultists were believed to be behind the killing, while investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible.
However, an anti-cultism advocacy platform alleged that Samson’s killing was linked to a cult clash in the area.
The platform claimed that a suspected member of the Eiye cult, identified as Ola Sheu, was killed by alleged members of the NBM on September 9 around Adeba Bus Stop, Lakowe, Ibeju-Lekki.

It further alleged that Samson’s suspected affiliation with Eiye was discovered after a photograph of him wearing an Eiye beret during his graduation was posted online to celebrate his birthday.
When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident but said the family had initially reported Samson missing.
She said detectives had commenced an investigation, visited his apartment and were working to track his mobile phone and establish his whereabouts.
The police spokesperson said the investigation remained ongoing.
