The Delta State Police Command has detained the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, alongside three other suspects over the death of a Deputy Director in the ministry, Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday night, saying the latest arrests had increased to five the number of persons in police custody in connection with the investigation.

The command also declared two other persons wanted for questioning, identifying them as Mrs Clemetine Ufuoma, Director of Basic and Secondary Education, and Clement Apia, the driver attached to the commissioner.

Edafe said the police took Ashibogwu and the three other suspects into custody “in continuation of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death” of Adeda. He added that the presence of Ufuoma and Apia was required to assist the ongoing investigation.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, subsequently urged the two individuals to report to the command without further delay. He assured the public that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly, impartially and professionally.

According to the police, anyone found culpable after the investigation would be brought to justice in accordance with the law. The command also expressed condolences to Adeda’s family, assuring the deceased’s relatives and members of the public that due process would be followed in determining the circumstances surrounding his death.
