President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending 28 days in Europe, arriving in Lagos on Tuesday evening after concluding what the Presidency described as a working vacation.
Tinubu departed Nigeria on August 30 and spent time in London and Paris before returning to the country. He arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, where he was received by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other dignitaries.
The President’s return comes ahead of Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary celebrations and at a time when his administration is facing renewed attention over economic conditions, security and other national issues.
During his stay in Europe, the Presidency maintained that Tinubu was on a working vacation and continued to engage with officials and other stakeholders on matters concerning Nigeria. His prolonged absence had, however, generated public debate, with different political groups offering contrasting views about the trip.
Tinubu is expected to participate in activities marking the Independence anniversary, with Lagos scheduled to host some of the celebrations before the President returns to Abuja.

His return also comes as the Federal Government faces demands from public sector workers over petrol prices, wage awards and the commencement of negotiations for a new national minimum wage.
The President’s Independence Day address is therefore expected to attract particular attention as Nigerians await the administration’s position on economic hardship, workers’ demands and other pressing national issues.
