ATIKU VOWS TO TACKLE INSECURITY, DEFY CAMPAIGN DISRUPTION

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reaffirmed his commitment to restoring security across Nigeria, declaring that alleged attempts to frustrate the African Democratic Congress (ADC) campaign will not deter the party from its activities ahead of the 2027 general election.

Atiku spoke on Wednesday during the flag-off of his presidential campaign in Sokoto State, where he urged Nigerians to support the ADC and vote for the party in the forthcoming election.

He said restoring security in every part of the country remained one of his major promises, recalling his previous campaign commitments to Nigerians.

The campaign flag-off came amid allegations by the former Vice President that the Sokoto State Government and security operatives were plotting to disrupt the rally.

Atiku had alleged at a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday that the Department of State Services (DSS) was recruiting protesters to cause disturbances and create grounds for imposing a curfew.

He also accused the state government of denying the opposition party access to public facilities and logistical support. The DSS subsequently ordered an investigation into the allegations but described the claims as inconsistent with its operations.

The Service maintained that it had provided security protection to political actors across party lines, citing the evacuation of ADC governorship candidate in Sokoto, Mannir Daniya, following an attack on October 31.

Despite the controversy, Atiku proceeded with the campaign, explaining that Sokoto was deliberately chosen because of its historical significance and reputation for peace.
