Baraje Predicts Major PDP Resurgence Ahead of 2027 Elections, Labels APC Governors as ‘Tenants’ in Government Houses

A former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Kawu Baraje, has expressed confidence that the party will stage a strong comeback in the 2027 general elections and reclaim several states currently governed by the All Progressives Congress (APC), including Bauchi and Jigawa.

Baraje said the APC was losing its grip on Nigerians, attributing the party’s previous electoral successes in some states to divisions within the PDP rather than overwhelming public support.

He spoke with journalists at the Dutse International Airport while on his way to Azare, Bauchi State, where he was scheduled to lead a delegation of PDP leaders on behalf of former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki.

The delegation was attending the commissioning of a 500-capacity Computer-Based Test (CBT) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre donated to the community by the PDP’s 2027 governorship candidate, Adamu Usman Ahmed.

According to Baraje, the political fortunes of the PDP have changed significantly, with the party overcoming some of the internal disagreements that previously affected its electoral performance.

He described APC governors currently occupying government houses as “tenants”, insisting that voters who previously supported the party were now becoming dissatisfied with its performance.

“People are rejecting them totally and clamouring for the return of the PDP. So, it is some kind of revolution,” Baraje said.

He recalled that the PDP had accepted the outcomes of the 2015 and 2023 elections despite reservations about the results, saying the party respected the choice of Nigerians and remained committed to democratic principles.

Baraje further maintained that the PDP’s renewed unity, coupled with what he described as growing public support, had placed the party in a strong position ahead of the 2027 elections.

He also praised Ahmed for establishing the ICT centre, describing the project as a worthwhile investment in the future of young people and an indication of the candidate’s commitment to technology and youth development.

The former PDP chairman said initiatives that equip young Nigerians with digital and technological skills would be critical to preparing them for emerging opportunities in the modern economy.
