CANCER SURVIVOR IKEME KNOCKS OUT OPPONENT IN CHARITY BOXING RETURN

Former Nigeria international goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has proven his fighting spirit extends far beyond the football pitch. The ex-Super Eagles shot-stopper secured a second-round technical knockout (TKO) victory over Bradley Orr at a charity boxing event held last month at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool.

The news of Ikeme’s commanding performance, which took place at the event tagged “A Night to Remember” organised by Pro Project Promotions, has only just emerged in the last 24 hours.

Ikeme’s professional football career was tragically cut short at its peak after he was diagnosed with acute leukaemia. His battle against the disease, which he ultimately won, has been hailed as one of the sport’s most inspiring stories.

The former Wolves goalkeeper’s victory over Orr served as a powerful testament to that enduring resilience. Despite the competitive nature of the bout, the mutual respect between the two fighters was palpable. Prior to the fight, Orr paid a poignant tribute to his opponent, noting that Ikeme had already fought—and won—“the biggest fight of his life.”

According to OwnGoalNigeria.com, which first reported the details, Ikeme was not the only retired football star to trade his boots for boxing gloves. The event’s fight card also featured other former professional players, including Chris Iwelumo, Lee Trundle, and Ross McCormack, all stepping into the squared circle to raise funds for Merseyside-based charities.

For Ikeme, the night was less about victory and more about celebration. “A Night to Remember” proved to be exactly that—another triumphant chapter for a man who has refused to let cancer define his legacy.
