Holders Nigeria national football team will begin their Unity Cup title defence on Tuesday when they face Zimbabwe at The Valley in London, with a place in the final on the line.
The Super Eagles, led by coach Eric Chelle, will meet a resilient Zimbabwe side in the semi-final of the friendly tournament, with the winner set to face either Jamaica or India in the final.

Nigeria head into the fixture in solid form despite notable absences, having won four of their six matches in 2026 while scoring 10 goals in the process. However, their recent matches have been open contests, with both goals scored and conceded in seven of their last eight friendly games.
Zimbabwe, on the other hand, arrive in London buoyed by back-to-back victories over Botswana and Zambia Under-23s, following a disappointing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign where they failed to win a match.
The two sides are no strangers to each other, having met twice during the 2026 World Cup qualifying series, with both encounters ending 1-1. Overall, Nigeria hold a slight edge in their historical head-to-head record.
Coach Eric Chelle has named a separate squad for the Unity Cup, with high-profile absences including Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Samuel Chukwueze. Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is also missing from both squads.
Despite the omissions, Nigeria still boast experienced players such as captain Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon, Bruno Onyemaechi and Akor Adams, alongside several new invitees given the chance to impress on the international stage.
Zimbabwe, under interim coach Kaitano Tembo, have also named a youthful 23-man squad led by experienced figures like Marvelous Nakamba, Marshall Munetsi and Gerald Takwara. The team has seen late changes, with some withdrawals and replacements ahead of the clash.
Both sides are expected to field competitive line-ups as they aim for a place in the Unity Cup final in what is anticipated to be an open and entertaining encounter.
