Veteran Broadcaster, Security Guard Murdered in Ogun Home Attack

Tragedy struck Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Sunday as veteran broadcaster and retired Ogun State Television (OGTV) presenter, Mrs Kitan Oyesiku, popularly known as “Aunty Kitan,” was allegedly murdered alongside her security guard at her residence in the Kobape area of the city.

The shocking incident, which occurred in the early hours of June 21, 2026, has sent waves of grief across the state, with family members, colleagues, friends and media practitioners mourning the loss of a woman widely respected for her contributions to broadcasting in Ogun State.

According to reports, unidentified assailants allegedly invaded the residence and carried out the deadly attack before fleeing the scene. The circumstances surrounding the killings remain unclear, while the motive has yet to be determined.

Tributes have continued to pour in from members of the media community and associates who described the late broadcaster as dedicated, hardworking and passionate about her profession.

Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Police Command said it had commenced a comprehensive investigation into the deaths of Mrs Oyesiku and her security guard.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the incident was reported at the Owode Egba Divisional Headquarters by a resident who noticed suspicious activities around the deceased’s residence.

According to the police spokesperson, detectives were immediately deployed to the scene where preliminary findings revealed signs of forced entry and disturbance within the premises.

He disclosed that the body of the security guard was discovered inside the security post, while Mrs Oyesiku’s corpse was later found inside her apartment. He added that the victim’s vehicle was missing from the premises.

Babaseyi further stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, had ordered a thorough investigation into the incident and directed officers to intensify efforts aimed at identifying and apprehending those responsible.

An intensive investigation is ongoing to unravel the facts, track down and apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous act while ensuring that all those involved are brought to justice,” he said.

He added that surveillance and intelligence-led operations had been expanded across relevant locations as part of efforts to uncover the circumstances surrounding the crime.

The command expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, the management and staff of Ogun State Television, the media community and others affected by the tragic loss.

Police also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and provide useful information that could assist investigators in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Meanwhile, sympathisers have continued to visit the family residence to offer condolences as the community grapples with the loss of the veteran broadcaster and her security aide.
