History was made on Friday 26th June 2026 as a new chairman and executive committee were elected in the biennial elections for the Nigerian bar association Surulere branch. At the end of the election conducted by the Prof Nlerum led election committee, Mr Eniola Omotoye emerged as the new branch chairman. In the keenly contested polls Mr Omotoye beat his co contestant Mr Yusuf Bello to clinch the position.
Mr Cornel Okey also defeated Mr Kingsley Ebimoh to emerge as the secretary elect. Other positions had the candidates returned unopposed, Mr Cosmas Chukwuma as the vice chairman elect, Mrs Nkeiruka Williams as the welfare secretary and Ms Amaka Oboh as the social secretary.
Addressing the branch in his victory speech, the freshly minted chairman Eniola Omotoye promised to serve both those who voted for him and those who did not. He declared that a new dawn had arrived in NBA Surulere. Similarly the secretary elect, Mr Cornel appreciated the trust reposed on him promising to serve the branch faithfully.
In his congratulatory remarks acknowledged that the battle had been fair while also pledging to support the new administration. Many members who spoke to our reporter expressed delight with the election committee and the emergence of the new chairman and EXCO. The new administration will take off in July when they will take the oath of office.
