The Owners of Private Schools Association of Nigeria (OPSAN) has called on the Federal Government to suspend the ongoing 2026/2027 tertiary admission exercise until all outstanding O’Level examination results are released.
OPSAN said proceeding with admissions while candidates were still awaiting results from some examination bodies could disadvantage thousands of students who depend on the National Examinations Council (NECO) and National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) for admission.
The association’s National President, Prof. Uzochukwu Solomon Nwanonyuo, made the demand in a statement issued after a stakeholders’ meeting. He criticised the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for proceeding with admissions while results from some examination bodies remained outstanding.
According to OPSAN, some candidates were still awaiting their 2025/2026 West African Examinations Council (WAEC) results, while NECO and NABTEB were yet to release their results. The association said some universities had already commenced or concluded Post-UTME screening and admission processes, including for some professional courses.
Nwanonyuo said students from technical colleges, Federal Science and Technical Colleges, vocational and commercial schools were particularly vulnerable because many of them rely on NECO and NABTEB results to secure admission into higher institutions.
He appealed to Education Minister, Dr Maruf Alausa, to direct JAMB to suspend the admission process and urged the National Universities Commission (NUC) to instruct universities to pause Post-UTME and admission exercises until all O’Level results are available.
OPSAN also called on WAEC to publish a comprehensive list of candidates who sat the 2025/2026 examination and urged NECO and NABTEB to expedite the release of their results.
The association argued that admitting candidates before all recognised O’Level results are available could create an uneven playing field and undermine confidence in Nigeria’s national examination bodies. It maintained that all candidates should have access to their results before universities conclude the 2026/2027 admission process.
