President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday swore in newly appointed commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) and the National Population Commission (NPC), charging them to carry out their responsibilities with integrity, transparency and commitment to national development.
The brief swearing-in ceremony took place before the commencement of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The appointments are part of efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen key institutions responsible for revenue allocation, fiscal management and population data administration.
The newly inaugurated officials are expected to fill existing vacancies in the two federal commissions and immediately assume their constitutional responsibilities. The RMAFC is mandated to monitor the accrual and disbursement of revenue from the Federation Account and advise governments on fiscal matters, while the NPC is responsible for census planning, demographic data collection and population management.
President Tinubu urged the commissioners to discharge their duties in accordance with the Constitution and place the national interest above personal or sectional considerations. He stressed the need for professionalism and accountability, noting that the work of both commissions remains critical to effective governance and national planning.
The inauguration comes as the Federal Government continues efforts to reform public institutions and improve fiscal discipline, revenue generation and evidence-based policy formulation. Analysts believe the commissions will play important roles in shaping future economic planning and resource allocation across the country.
The RMAFC has continued to advocate reforms in Nigeria’s revenue-sharing framework, while the NPC is preparing for future demographic exercises expected to provide updated data for national planning and development. The performance of the new commissioners will therefore be closely watched by government and other stakeholders.
The appointments take immediate effect, with the commissioners expected to begin work as the administration pushes ahead with its governance and institutional reform agenda.
