The naira has continued to hold steady against major foreign currencies at the official foreign exchange market, with analysts attributing the currency’s resilience to sustained monetary reforms by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), improved crude oil production and stronger external reserves.
Market data showed the local currency trading within a relatively stable range against the United States dollar in recent days, reflecting a marked improvement from the sharp volatility experienced in previous years. Financial experts said increased foreign exchange inflows and tighter liquidity management have helped restore confidence in the market.
The CBN has maintained a cautious monetary policy stance aimed at containing inflation and preserving exchange rate stability. At its most recent Monetary Policy Committee meeting, the apex bank retained the Monetary Policy Rate at 26.5 per cent alongside other key monetary parameters, signalling its commitment to sustaining macroeconomic stability.
Economic analysts said the relative stability of the naira has also been supported by improved oil production, stronger foreign exchange reserves and ongoing reforms designed to attract foreign portfolio investment. They noted that the country’s external reserves have risen significantly, giving the CBN greater capacity to intervene in the foreign exchange market when necessary.
Despite the positive outlook, experts warned that pressures from global oil prices, external economic shocks and domestic demand for foreign exchange remain potential risks to the currency. They urged the government to deepen economic diversification, boost non-oil exports and sustain fiscal discipline to preserve recent gains.
Businesses and investors have welcomed the improved exchange rate stability, saying it has enhanced planning, reduced uncertainty and encouraged investment decisions. Many expressed optimism that continued policy consistency would further strengthen market confidence and support economic growth in the months ahead.

The sustained performance of the naira is being closely watched by manufacturers, importers and financial market participants, who believe that maintaining exchange rate stability will be crucial to moderating inflation, improving investor confidence and supporting Nigeria’s broader economic recovery agenda.
