The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of placing greater emphasis on preparations for the 2027 general election than on addressing Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the APC appeared more focused on retaining political power than fulfilling its responsibility to govern.
According to Abdullahi, discussions by APC leaders have become dominated by the next election rather than the pressing issues confronting Nigerians.
“If you listen to them, they have only one problem today; the only problem they have as far as they are concerned is the 2027 election,” he said.
He added that the ruling party was behaving as though it had already completed its mandate, despite the country’s mounting economic and security concerns.
Abdullahi also criticised the Federal Government’s implementation of the fuel subsidy removal, arguing that while subsidy reform may be necessary, the manner in which it was carried out had intensified hardship for ordinary Nigerians.
He said an ADC-led administration would adopt a different approach by reviewing the policy with the welfare of citizens as its priority.
“We say that this removal of subsidy, the manner the government has gone about it, is wrong. ADC will not do it the same way,” he said.
Emphasising the party’s agenda, Abdullahi stated that the ADC’s immediate focus would be to reduce the economic burden on Nigerians and improve their living conditions rather than concentrating on future elections.
“Our immediate concern is how do we ease the burden on the people,” he added.
The ADC maintained that it is positioning itself as an alternative political platform committed to people-centred governance and practical solutions to the nation’s challenges.
