Nigeria’s Super Falcons will face Tanzania in an international friendly after their planned warm-up match against Ghana was cancelled, providing the African champions with a final test ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The friendly against Ghana’s Black Queens was called off at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances, forcing the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to seek an alternative opponent as the team intensifies preparations for the continental tournament.
Tanzania’s women’s national team, the Twiga Stars, have now agreed to face the Super Falcons in a replacement fixture, with both countries expected to use the encounter to fine-tune their tactics before the competition kicks off later this week in Morocco.
Head Coach Justine Madugu is expected to use the match to assess his squad, build cohesion among the players and make final tactical adjustments as Nigeria begins its quest for another continental title. The Super Falcons are aiming to successfully defend their WAFCON crown and reinforce their status as Africa’s most successful women’s football team.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and experienced forward Asisat Oshoala are among the key players expected to feature prominently as Nigeria seeks to enter the tournament with confidence and momentum.
Football analysts say the Tanzania fixture offers the coaching crew an important opportunity to evaluate combinations, improve match fitness and address any weaknesses before the Super Falcons begin their title defence. They believe a positive performance would boost the team’s confidence heading into the championship.
The 2026 WAFCON is scheduled to begin on July 26 in Morocco, with Nigeria once again regarded as one of the favourites to lift the trophy. The outcome of the final warm-up match is expected to provide a useful indication of the team’s readiness for another successful continental campaign.
