The Lagos State Safety Commission has warned spa and beauty business operators against neglecting hygiene and workplace safety standards, saying poor safety practices could expose clients and employees to preventable injuries and health risks.
The commission urged practitioners to make risk prevention an integral part of their daily operations, stressing that safety should be regarded as a fundamental aspect of professional service delivery rather than an optional requirement.
The Director of Administration and Human Resources, Awolesi Ademola, who represented the Director-General, Lanre Mojola, gave the warning at a one-day training programme for beauty industry operators in Lagos.
The programme, themed, “Safe Hands, Safe Spaces: Building a Zero-Harm Culture in the Spa and Beauty Industry,” was organised to equip practitioners with the knowledge to identify workplace hazards, assess operational risks and prevent accidents.

Ademola said maintaining a safe business environment required more than regulatory compliance, urging operators and their employees to make safety consciousness part of their everyday activities.
He said the commission remained committed to extending safety awareness across different sectors of the Lagos economy to protect workers, business operators, residents and visitors.
The training focused on hazard identification in spa operations and the health implications of work-related strain on beauty professionals.
The Lagos State Chairman of the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria, Olusola Ogunleye, delivered a presentation on advanced risk assessment and hazard control in spa operations, highlighting measures for identifying and managing workplace hazards.
Similarly, the Chief Medical Director of Skintetics Clinics, Chuka Imo, addressed occupational health and ergonomic safety, explaining ways to protect beauty professionals from work-related health complications.
The Head of the Commission’s Spa, Gym, Cinema, Parks and Gardens Unit, Abiola Mary Abiola, urged participants to implement the lessons from the training to improve safety standards in their businesses.
