Premier League side Nottingham Forest have reportedly emerged as the frontrunners to sign highly-rated Nigerian teenage striker Abdoulaye Agbejoye, one of the country’s brightest young football prospects, as European clubs continue to scout emerging talent from Nigeria.
The 18-year-old forward, who plays for Grassrunners FC in Ogun State, has attracted widespread attention following an outstanding campaign in the Nigerian Youth League Cup, where he finished as the competition’s top scorer and was named Player of the Tournament. His impressive performances have placed him on the radar of several European clubs.
Reports indicate that Nottingham Forest are keen to secure the youngster’s signature ahead of rival clubs. The English club is said to view Agbejoye as a long-term investment and is considering sending him on loan to another European side to aid his development before integrating him into the first team.
The towering striker, who stands at 6ft 5in, has drawn comparisons with some of Europe’s leading centre-forwards because of his physical presence, pace and finishing ability. Scouts believe his style of play makes him well-suited to English football.
The prospect of joining Nottingham Forest could also see Agbejoye link up with fellow Nigerians Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina, who are already established members of the Premier League club. Their presence is expected to ease the youngster’s transition should the move materialise.
