Nigeria’s Super Falcons have stepped up preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, with the team nearing full strength as more players arrive in camp ahead of the continental championship.
Head Coach Justine Madugu has continued to fine-tune his squad as the nine-time African champions intensify training sessions in Casablanca, focusing on tactical drills, fitness and team cohesion ahead of their opening Group C fixture against Malawi.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said the team remains confident despite the cancellation of its scheduled international friendly against Ghana’s Black Queens due to unforeseen circumstances. Officials noted that the coaching crew has adjusted the training programme to ensure the players remain in peak condition before the tournament begins.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade leads a squad that includes experienced stars such as Asisat Oshoala, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Jennifer Echegini and Michelle Alozie, all expected to play key roles as Nigeria seeks to retain its dominance in African women’s football.
The Super Falcons have been drawn in Group C alongside Malawi, Zambia and Egypt, with the top two teams progressing to the knockout stage. The tournament also serves as a qualification route for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, adding further significance to Nigeria’s campaign.
Football analysts believe the blend of experienced internationals and emerging talents gives Nigeria a strong chance of mounting another successful title challenge, although they expect stiff competition from defending champions South Africa, hosts Morocco and other top African sides.
As anticipation builds across the continent, Nigerians will be looking to the Super Falcons to deliver another memorable campaign and reinforce the country’s status as the most successful nation in the history of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations
